How to use plastic masterbatch
08/16/2018
Here are some ways to use masterbatch:
1. How to use plastic masterbatch?
When using the plastic masterbatch, please mix it with the resin according to the ratio specified in the same process.
Pay attention to the temperature and back pressure of the machine
during the operation of the equipment. Appropriate adjustment is an
effective means to improve the quality of the product, mainly to improve
the dispersion of the color masterbatch:
1.1. The mixing chamber of the injection molding machine or extruder
generally has multiple temperature zones, and the temperature near the
material inlet should be slightly higher, which is beneficial to the
color dispersion of the color masterbatch in the product.
1.2. Appropriate application of back pressure to the injection molding
machine, although this will slow down the injection speed, which can
improve the mixing effect of the screw and facilitate the dispersion of
the pigment.
1.3. Increasing the temperature of the die of the extruder can increase the brightness of the product.
2. How to determine the proportion of plastic masterbatch used?
The proportion of plastic masterbatch can be selected as follows to
achieve uniform color tone on the surface of the product without streaks
and spots:
1:100 Low cost but low concentration and uneven pigment dispersion. Not recommended.
1:50 It is used for general plastic products with coloring requirements. PE and PP color masterbatch use this ratio more.
1:33--1:25 For use in PO-based products with high coloring requirements, low-color or general ABS products.
1:20 Used in advanced plastic products, including PO and ABS, it can
be widely used in injection molding, blow molding, spinning and other
processes.
1:20 or more Generally used for coloring of high-grade cosmetic containers, and more used in small injection molding machines.
The point here is to emphasize that, in combination with actual operations, do not over-constrain the theoretical things. The theory is to guide us in practical use. Sometimes it is not necessary to use the same ratio for the two
products, because the machine and the artificial mix will be different.
3. How to calculate the cost of using plastic masterbatch?
The weight of the color masterbatch itself should be deducted when calculating the cost of coloring the plastic masterbatch.
For example: 2 kg of color masterbatch is added to 100 kg of plastic
resin. At this time, the total weight is already 102 kg. Assuming the
resin price is 10 yuan/kg, the color masterbatch price is 20 yuan/kg.
The cost of using plastic masterbatch in 102 kg of plastic products is:
2 kg × (20 yuan / kg -10 yuan / kg) = 20 yuan
This algorithm is a bit tricky. In fact, the simple fact is that you need to add a few kilograms of
color masterbatch to replace a few kilograms of plastic raw materials.
The difference between the two is your added cost.
The cost added to each 100 kg of plastic product due to the use of plastic masterbatch is:
20 yuan / 102 kg × 100 kg = 19.61 yuan
This is an algorithm equivalent to the cost of accounting, as a general calculation or the above method directly. But we must note that the cost of color matching cannot be compared with raw materials. It is to talk about the craft. First
of all, compare the cost of color matching between plastic toner and
plastic masterbatch. If the color matching of plastic toner can be done,
the toner will be used in the process. The
color matching of the plastic toner does not meet the ideal
requirements and the masterbatch has to be used. This cannot be weighed
by the cost method. Another point is the waste in production, small batches, multi-batch is not recommended to use masterbatch.
4. Does the use of plastic masterbatch increase product cost?
This is the case in most cases. However, in some cases, coloring with plastic masterbatch is more
economical than coloring with toner because the colorist can achieve a
higher price pigment coloration through a combination of several
lower-priced pigments.
5. Does the plastic masterbatch need to be dried before use?
Plastic masterbatch does not need to be dried under normal conditions
and can be used directly. However, except for ABS and NY masterbatch,
they should be dried according to conventional processes.
6. Can I use several different plastic masterbatches to formulate colors?
Several
plastic masterbatches can be used to formulate specific colors for
small-volume customers. However, without the guidance of technicians, it
is not advisable to use several color masterbatches together, and it is
not allowed to mix the color masterbatch produced by different
companies. In order to avoid incompatibility and loss.
