First, what is masterbatch?
Generally speaking, the masterbatch is a colored plastic
particle which is granulated by a manufacturer after mixing the resin raw
material and the pigment auxiliary agent, and its main function is coloring,
since it has been uniformly mixed with the matrix resin, so the user directly
interacts with the matrix resin and others. A blend of additives can give a
colored plastic product. Namely: masterbatch is the raw material of plastic
colorant.
Second, what are the uses of masterbatch?
Masterbatches can be used to color match polyvinyl
chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and ABS plastics. The main
components are pigments, resins, dispersants, volume pigments, fluorescent
whitening agents, antioxidants, anti-UV agents, antistatic agents, toughening
agents, brighteners, etc. Titanium dioxide is used as a white pigment, without poison,
chemically stable, high hiding power, good dispersion and so on.
There are several production processes for masterbatch, such as:
pigments, resins, dispersants, volume pigments, other additives, high-speed
mixers, twin-screw extruder masterbatch.
Masterbatch is used as an industrial raw material. The
performance is usually manifested in subsequent product applications (such as
blown film or injection molding). Therefore, the performance of titanium
dioxide in masterbatch is mainly reflected in masterbatch. During the
application process. Mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1) Titanium white coloring ability: the amount of titanium white used to
determine the color of the same plastic product;
2) Whiteness of titanium white: the appearance of light (white) plastic
products having the same titanium white content;
3) Dispersibility of titanium dioxide: affecting the production cost of color masterbatch
and the appearance and gloss of plastic products;
4) Processing properties of titanium dioxide: affecting the production cost of
masterbatch.
5) Processing properties of titanium white: strong processability.
Masterbatch can replace the previous plastic colorant, and there are many
advantages as follows:
1. First, it gives the pigment a better dispersion in the product.
In the production process of the color masterbatch, the pigment
must be refined to improve the dispersibility and tinting strength of the
pigment. The carrier of the special color masterbatch is the same as the
plastic of the product, and has good matching property, and the pigment
particles can be well dispersed in the plastic of the product after heating and
melting.
2. It is beneficial to maintain the chemical stability of the pigment.
When the pigment is directly used, since the pigment directly
contacts the air during storage and use, the pigment may absorb water, oxidize,
etc., and after the color masterbatch, since the resin carrier separates the
pigment from the air and moisture, the quality of the pigment may not change
for a long-term.
3, to ensure the stability of the color of the product
The color masterbatch particles are similar to the resin
particles, and are more convenient and accurate in metering, do not adhere to
the container during mixing, and are evenly mixed with the resin, thereby
ensuring the stability of the added amount, thereby ensuring the stability of
the color of the product.
