Development of masterbatch
The average annual demand
growth rate of masterbatch in other countries in Asia is about 7%-9%, but the
average annual demand growth rate of masterbatch in China is about 20%. China
is expected to become the fastest growing market for masterbatch demand, especially
in color and adding masterbatch. China depends on imports. China has become the
largest producer and consumer of the masterbatch market in Asia. At present,
there are 400 masterbatch production enterprises in China, mainly distributed
in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, Beijing, Shanghai, Hunan, Hebei and
Tianjin. They belong to various industrial systems, and the annual production
capacity is there are more than 50 enterprises with more than 1,000 tons, all
over the country. The total demand for masterbatch in the country is less than 120,000
t/a, and the production capacity is seriously over-supplied, resulting in the
widespread shortage of domestic masterbatch industry under working and fierce
market competition. Among these masterbatch manufacturers, there is not many
that have superior quality, and SMEs and individual companies account for a
large proportion. There is a serious excess of production capacity, except for
the rapid growth of new production equipment and insufficient product orders.
The important factor is that the domestic masterbatch products have a single
structure and incomplete varieties. The general-purpose products account for a
large proportion, while the high-concentration and super-high concentration,
multifunctional masterbatch and fine fiber masterbatch account for a smaller
proportion. In contrast, In countries with high levels of masterbatch
technology, there are full range of pigments,
dispersants and other raw materials, and forming Serialized and specialized product
structure. The foreign masterbatch market is mainly concentrated in
Western Europe, North America and Japan. The companies producing masterbatches
are mostly multinational companies or Fortune 500 companies, such as Hanna,
PoIyone, BASF, Hoechst, Suiqu Ciba-Geigy, Giarant, etc. The annual output is
over 1 million tons, of which Western Europe accounts for more than 50%, and
Hanna's annual sales volume is 140,000 tons.
Special application of
titanium dioxide in masterbatch
The development of color
masterbatch is very fast, and the production process of masterbatch is simple,
and the investment is small. At present, there are hundreds of masterbatch
factories in China, the scale of production and technical level are uneven, and
the small annual output is several tens of tons or tens of thousands tons, the
competition for products is becoming increasingly fierce, the profits of
production enterprises are declining, and the quality of most masterbatch
products is low. According to incomplete statistics, the titanium dioxide used
for masterbatch production is 20,000 to 30,000 tons per year. The rutile used
is divided into high, medium and low grades. The high grade uses imported
rutile, the medium grade uses domestic rutile, and the low grade uses domestic
anatase. Due to fierce competition, there is an increasing trend in the use of
anatase titanium dioxide masterbatches.
There are several kinds of
masterbatch production processes, such as: high-speed mixers to mix pigments,
resins, dispersants, volume pigments, other additives, twin-screw extruder to
extrude masterbatch. Masterbatch is used as industrial material, its performance
is usually showed in the follow-up application products. Therefore, the
performance of titanium dioxide in the color masterbatch is also mainly
reflected in the application of the masterbatch. Mainly reflected in the
following aspects:
1) The coloring ability of titanium: it determines the amount of titanium used for same color of the plastic products;
2) The whiteness of titanium: it determines the appearance of light (white) plastic products for the same titanium content;
3) Dispersibility of titanium dioxide: affecting the production cost of color masterbatch and the appearance and gloss of plastic products;
4) Processing properties of titanium dioxide: affecting the production cost of masterbatch.
Masterbatch without
standard paint pigment standard
The pigment is the raw
material of the masterbatch. The quality of the pigment directly affects the
quality of the masterbatch, and the quality of the masterbatch directly affects
the quality of the plastic product. In other words, the requirement of the
masterbatch of the plastic product is the requirement of the masterbatch for
the pigment. This includes safety, heat resistance stability, light resistance
and weather resistance, acid and alkali resistance, migration resistance,
chemical resistance, and the like. However, pigments for masterbatch have never
formed a national standard, and it has been 30 years they followed the standard for pigments used in
paints.
